Safety Meet & Greet™
A personal connection before anyone enters your home
Meet Your Handywoman Before She Arrives
No other home services platform does this. Before your first booking is confirmed, you and your handywoman connect on a brief, private video call inside the app. It’s not a formality—it’s how trust begins.
You Request a Booking
Browse handywomen by skill, location, and availability. Find someone whose expertise matches your project, then submit your booking request with a description of what you need.
We Schedule Your Meet & Greet
Pick a time when you’re both free, within two business days. The call is a private video call inside the app, with nothing to download.
You Connect, Face to Face
In 5–10 minutes, you’ll discuss the scope of your project, ask any questions, and get comfortable with the person who will be in your home. Your handywoman can also clarify tools, timing, and materials.
Your Booking Is Confirmed
Once both you and your handywoman feel good about the fit, the booking is confirmed once her insurance is verified. If it doesn’t feel right, there’s no pressure—we’ll match you with someone else.
— What we want every client to say
Why We Require This
For many of our clients—especially those living alone—having a stranger enter their home involves real vulnerability. The Meet & Greet ensures you’re never surprised by who shows up, and gives your handywoman the context she needs to do her best work.
Insured. Verified Before Every Booking.
Every handywoman on Hometown Handywomen carries her own general liability insurance. We verify her certificate before her first job and check it again before every booking, and Hometown Handywomen is named as an additional insured.
Her Own General Liability Policy
Her policy is meant to respond to accidental property damage and bodily injury that may occur during your service. We review the certificate, including limits and dates, before she works in your home.
Checked Before Every Booking
No forms for you to fill out. We confirm her policy is active before each booking, and we follow up with her if it lapses.
Safety and Vetting, Funded Transparently
Our Safety, Trust & Insurance Fee is a transparent line item on your invoice that supports safety, vetting, and support. No hidden charges, no surprises. Your handywoman keeps 100% of her rate.

How We Vet Handywomen
Not everyone who applies joins the platform. Every handywoman goes through a multi-step process before she ever receives a booking request.
Application & Profile Review
Every applicant submits detailed information about their skills, experience, specialties, and service area. We review each application individually—there is no automated approval.
Background Check
A comprehensive background screening covers criminal history, identity verification, and relevant records. This happens before any handywoman can create a listing or receive booking requests.
Skills Assessment
We verify that each handywoman has the expertise she claims. Depending on specialties, this may include portfolio review, reference checks, or practical demonstration of core skills.
Platform Onboarding
Approved handywomen take a short platform walkthrough: how bookings, the Meet & Greet, invoicing and insurance verification work in the app.
Ongoing Quality Reviews
Clients and handywomen rate each other after every job, and ratings appear on profiles. We follow up on any safety concern.
Your Questions, Answered
Everything you want to know about how we keep you safe.
What does the Safety, Trust & Insurance Fee cover?
The fee covers our safety, vetting, and support work: the platform technology that powers the Safety Meet & Greet and secure payments, background checks, insurance verification, and ongoing quality assurance including review monitoring. It appears as a single transparent line item on your invoice — no hidden charges.
What happens if something goes wrong during a job?
Every handywoman carries her own general liability insurance, so accidental property damage or injury can be taken to her insurer. Contact us right away by email or phone, and we’ll help you document what happened, connect with her insurer, and work to make it right.
Can I skip the Safety Meet & Greet for repeat bookings?
The Meet & Greet is required only before your first booking with a specific handywoman. Once you’ve connected, all future bookings with that same handywoman are confirmed without another call. Many clients find a handywoman they love and rebook her again and again.
What if the Meet & Greet doesn’t feel right?
No pressure, ever. If either you or the handywoman feels it’s not the right fit, the booking isn’t confirmed and you won’t be charged. We’ll help match you with another handywoman who may be a better fit for your project and comfort level.
How is this different from other platforms’ guarantees?
Many platforms offer discretionary guarantees that they may or may not honor on a case-by-case basis. We require every handywoman to carry her own general liability insurance, and we verify her certificate before her first job and again before every booking. It’s the difference between a promise and a policy.
Does my handywoman need her own insurance?
Yes. Every handywoman carries her own general liability insurance, either an existing policy or one she buys (for example from Thimble), with Hometown Handywomen named as an additional insured. We verify her certificate before her first job and check it again before every booking. We don’t insure jobs ourselves.
